MAKING A FOUNDATION CHAIN

MAKING A FOUNDATION CHAIN

STEP 1
Start by making a slipknot and positioning it near the end of the hook. Wrap the working yarn (the yarn attached to the ball or skein) around the hook as shown.
STEP 2
Draw the yarn through the loop on the hook by catching it with the hook and pulling towards you.
STEP 3

One chain stitch is complete. Lightly tug on the yarn to tighten the loop if it is very loose, or wiggle the hook to loosen the loop if it is tight. Repeat from step 1 to make as many chains as required for your pattern.
To count the number of chain stitches made, hold the chain so that the “V”s are all lined up. Do not count the loop on the hook or the slipknot you made when beginning the chain. Each V counts as one chain made.
